Curriculum

Our Lady Star of the Sea School follows the guidelines and policies set forth by the Office of Education of the Diocese of Bridgeport. The school curriculum consists of daily instruction in religion, reading, languages arts, and mathematics in grades Kindergarten through grade five. The Pre-K curriculum consists of daily instruction in age appropriate social skills, fine and gross motor skills, pre-reading, pre-writing, listening and speaking skills. The curriculum meets both Diocesan and Connecticut State Content Standards.

The religion program fosters the OLSS mission and motto to have the students see Christ’s reflection in all they do. Religious education is a continuous thread that is integrated throughout the curriculum. The math curriculum seeks to develop students problem-solving strategies, critical thinking abilities and life skills as they relate to mathematics. Our Social Studies curricula develop and enhance students understanding of the community, the world and all its cultures.Students at all grade levels receive reading instruction and also engage in whole group instruction when the teacher introduces literature from anthologies. English language arts instruction includes English grammar, spelling, vocabulary, handwriting, speaking and listening. ¬†OLSS has a strong curriculum in earth science and environmental science, due to the school’s location on the Long Island Sound, a natural classroom.

In our curriculum we like to make sure everyone is very healthy and that they have the best nutrition that’s available. We’ve partnered with the following company to make sure you are always feeling at the very best. You can check them out at Nutritionist Buffalo NY, and book them if you like what you see.
